Aaron and I were having dinner at Joel and Lara's when we started talking about whether a fridge was a good gift for Lara's birthday. At first I was skeptical. Blame it on years of getting socks and underwear for Christmas, but the idea of an electrical appliance for a birthday didn't appeal to me.
After some thought I determined that there is a fine line between what is suitable and what is un-birthday. A George Foreman Lean Mean Grilling Machine or Hello Kitty Waffle Iron is good. A dehumidifier or iron is not. A cool fridge with the water and ice spouts on the front door is good.
Lara was telling me that the day will come when I will have no choice but to accept the things I really need as birthday presents. I said that if they have Hello Kitty on them then that is just fine. Then Joel stated, "Yeah but Kitchen Aid Mixers don't come in pink".
