The Real Reason Why I Voted
To get the sticker. Yeah, that's right. It's like Joel says "People will do anything for a T-shirt". I was in it for the sticker.
Joel got up at the crack of dawn to vote and was strutting around the office all day with his "I voted today!" sticker plastered to his chest. I felt excluded. Left out. Stickerless.
So I tore out of work, nabbed Aaron who spent the day at the courthouse getting his papers straightened out so he could vote in New York and we headed to the polls.
Check the name, sign the book, into the curtain, flick, flick, flick, step out of the curtain.
I pause and stare expectantly at the leetle old lady that was "watching" the booth.
She smiles and nods at me.
"Ummm, do I get a sticker?" I ask motioning to the sticker stuck to her fuzzy white cardigan.
"Ohhh...we ran out hours ago. Lots of voters."
"Oh." I try to hide my disapointment.
"But take mine!" she insists as she's peeling it off.
"Oh no! That's okay.. really!" I don't want to take the leetle old lady's sticker!
"No please!" as she sticks it to my parka and *thud, thud*, pounds on it to make it stay.
"Oh, all right."
Mission accomplished.
