New apple varieties

I stood for a long time at Whittier Fruit Farm staring at this wall with my mouth hanging open. They say have 27 varieties but here I count 48.

I get a little caught up in the different kinds of apples. I have written before about Honeycrisp, Zestar! and their love chlld Sweetango. I would love to go to an apple tasting. Each has their specific flavor, texture and ideal use.

While I was studying the different kinds of apples I noticed that some aren't available until 2014 or 2015. New apple varieties to come!

SnapDragon was the first to catch my eye. First it has a "logo" that is a dragon in the shape of an apple. Fantastic! It's part HoneyCrisp. Good, good. It is "spicy sweet". Say what?! Spicy sweet?! Downside - we have to wait until 2015 to try it.

Who names these apples? It's like naming nail polish.

Fireside. Coziest apple ever. Snowsweet and RubyFrost. These sound cool and refreshing.

Rest assured, when these come out I'll try them and report back.
