I have touched down in Hawaii! It was amazing from the start. As soon as you get off the plane you go outside. The walk to baggage is outdoors. Immediately you see the mountains. There are birds hopping around the food court it is so open.
Aaron greeted me at baggage with a beautiful lei! It smelled so sweet!
We had dinner at a tiki bar over looking Waikiki Beach.
Afterwards we walked on the beach as the sun went down.
I love how they light torches here when it gets dark.
I have been learning how to use my new camera. I took a lot of pictures of this statue. It is Duke Kahanamoku.
From wikipedia: Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku (August 24, 1890 – January 22, 1968) was a Hawaiian swimmer, actor, lawman, early beach volleyball player and businessman credited with spreading the sport of surfing. He was a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming.
A good first day in Hawaii I would say!
Great pics! Have a fun time!
ReplyDeleteJenny - out on the west side of Oahu there's a beach where the giant sea turtles come ashore during the day. It's not Turtle Beach on the North Shore - it's out west. When I first visited there in 2005, you could get in the water with the turtles, as long as you left them alone. Now you have to stay back, but it's still a really, really cool experience.
ReplyDeleteNot too far from where you posted pictures from is the Queen's Surf Cafe & Lanai. Totally recommend it! Beautiful inexpensive food, seriously so delicious. Also within walking distance, the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort has penguins and flamingos and other birds, super cute. If you have a vehicle, Waimānalo Beach Park was the one I enjoyed the most. We were the only people there! Also loved the Pillbox Hiking Trail (moreso than Diamondhead). Recommend Kua Aina Sandwich Shop if you can get to one, great burgers. Also, one last recommendation, renting scooters was really a lot of fun and a neat way to see more of Honolulu.
