Even though I am supposed to be on a buying freeze in preparation for the holiday season, I found myself ordering these little glass containers from Crate & Barrel.
After I gave all my poison leaching plastic containers to Aaron for nut and bolt storage, I discovered I didn't have enough glass containers for leftovers, lunches and snacks. These 16 oz bowls with lids are the perfect size and reasonably priced... if you don't count the shipping charge which this poor Crate & Barrel barren city dweller has to bear.
I think it is funny just how many pictures of these containers were featured on the product page. In case anyone was wondering, what on earth could I do with a container this size?... well, ahhh you could put beans in them... umm, some sliced limes? How about some herbs or nuts?
Just make sure you don't put the lids in the dishwasher, or even really hot water! I've had a set of these for several years - they will shrink and warp! The containers are really useful though, and the glass is sturdy.
ReplyDeleteI also bought these from Target. The rectangular shape makes them a bit easier to store.
ReplyDeleteFYI, Crate and Barrel has free shipping for orders over $100 right now. The offer applies to most, but not all, items.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a box Martha Stewart glass containers very similar to these at Kmart.
ReplyDeleteI have these and I LOVE them.
ReplyDeleteTeri - I have the rectangular Martha Stewart set of different sizes. The little round ones were 3 bowls for $6 and the Crate & Barrel ones were 12 for $20. Although with the shipping that evened them out.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if the plastic lids leach poisonous toxins onto the food - any thoughts/facts on this? TY so much. Michele in NYC
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny for the link. I see now I have to be more diligent about getting rid of plastic altogether. Milk containers, colanders(sp), etc.

Hi ljc! I gave up my plastics a while ago, too. What I use, (and I'm surprised you don't given your love of Pyrex!) are vintage Pyrex refrigerator dishes. Love them, with their colorful containers of different sizes and cute glass lids. I bought a few sets off EBAY and have never missed my plastics.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed reading your blog! Thank you for all of your creative ideas.
