I made these cupcakes in December, and I always secretly wondered what you would think of them. I was not too impressed with them. I still have a pack of the chocolate peppermint kind, but I'm not sure I they will be any better.
The mixes are pretty good, as long as you sift it first. However, they pale in comparison to the real thing. I have probably spent hundreds there in the past year! It's so sad...
I received the Pumpkin and the Vanilla for my birthday last year. Everyone loved the Pumpkin, but I think it was the cream cheese frosting, not the cake. Don't waste your money on the vanilla...they're horrible.
I have also tried Barefoot Contessa’s products, and those are just so-so. In a packaged cupcake review, Martha's actually came out on top, so you might give those a try.
Baking from scratch always seems to taste much better IMHO.
hmmm ... i've always wondered about those silicone cups ...
**Sarah** you can get a nice container at AC Moore or http://www.kitchenkrafts.com has a great supply of cupcake stuff. Visit a direct link at: http://www.kitchenkrafts.com/product.asp?pn=CD9958 and http://www.kitchenkrafts.com/product.asp?pn=PP1014
I got this same mix as a gift and found the resulting cupcakes to be dry, even with loads of my mam's superdelish homemade icing on top. Also, does anyone else think the little candy circle accents they include for the top look slightly...explicit?
Hey! I noticed that about the silicone cupcake cups as well. They are awful to get off. I thought I had done something wrong. I much prefer the silicone baking cups (like muffin tins, but silicone) they work great. And paper is fine for me as well.
Regarding the silicone cups -- after experiencing the same trouble, I read online that while they say you don't *need* to spray them, it is a good idea. I've done it both ways, and a light misting of vegetable oil via Mr. Misto or non-stick cooking spray does wonders without tainting the flavor.
I really want to get a couple of the Cup-a-cakes (cupacake.com) for packing in lunches.
A thin film of a 50-50 mixture of soy lecithin and standard vege oil rubbed on any baking object will make your baked goodies literally fall out of the pan when you want them to.
have you been to sprinkles during any of your los angeles trips? it's a must!

Hi Jenny! The cupcakes look yummy! I haven't seen an update about the bug - will it recover from the accident?
