I am sad to say Ernie passed away last night. He turned six this month, which Aaron says is getting up there in bunny years. I feel horrible because I was just explaining what a tremendous amount of work grooming him is to my friend Greta at Sit & Knit Thursday night. Poor Ernie.
We were with him when he went.... I had just given him a haircut. His wool was so fluffy, I had to tuck it in so as not to shut it in his carrier when we took him to my parents for Christmas. He was sitting on a towel in the kitchen with some carrots when he made a weird noise and Aaron and I came running. Aaron was petting him and he was gone quietly.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a small concession, but at least he passed away quickly and with you both at his side. God bless.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about Ernie. It is always so hard when you lose a pet... my heart is sad for you.
ReplyDeleteOh no!! I'm so sad to hear about Ernie's passing. I'm sure he had the best possible life a bunny could have with you and your husband taking loving care of him.
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry as well... I am glad, though, that you have lots of wonderful memories of Ernie to help get you both through this. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about Ernie. Our lil bunny past away dec 17th last year at the age of 9,5 years. She wasn't sick either just old.My husband stroke her until she passed.Seems like both our bunnies were well taken care of to reach an age higher than 4 years. They are eating big chunks of daffodilleaves now and hopping around in bunnies heaven.
ReplyDeleteLosing a pet is never easy, I am sorry to hear of it.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I am so sorry. The loss of a pet can be so, so hard. Hugs

ReplyDeleteKimberly
sorry to hear that
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about the guilt. My cat died at a very young age last year, just one week after I talked to the vet about possibly finding another home for him. (He was super-high energy and it was taking a toll on my elderly dogs and me.) But I think he knew I loved him, and I'm sure Ernie knew the same.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about Ernie. He was a beautiful bunny and he had a great life. He passed being stroked lovingly by the people who loved him. My condolences.
ReplyDeleteTammie

ReplyDeleteAwww! Poor Ernie! I think that rabbits often just kinda of fall over and are gone.
ReplyDeleteMy poor rabbit Owen just stopped after about seven years. His picture is here.
Anyhow, rabbits are AWESOME pets despite their funny short attention. He sounds well-cared for and loved.
RIP Ernie. I know you loved him and gave him a good life.
ReplyDeleteIve been a longtime reader of your blog (6 years maybe?) and have really enjoyed the photos, snippets, and funny tales of your furry pals... especially sweet overly puffy Ernie. (Oscar's food fight with him was the best! :D )

I'm so sorry to hear about Ernie. I remember when I first found your blog, way back before Stewie and even before Oscar. I loved and was inspired by how you had a pet section on your site and when I saw you had a bunny I felt a kinship because I'm a bunny owner too. I loved reading posts about him. He'll be missed.
ReplyDeleteJenny- I'm also a longtime reader who was very saddened by Ernie's passing. Our pets are part of our family too, so I know it must be very hard for you. What a lucky bunny he was to have such a great life with you and your hubby.
ReplyDeleteHow unfortunate :-(

I don't often comment, but wanted to say that I'm really sorry for your loss. I've always looked forward to your pictures of Ernie - he was such a cutie. I concur with everyone - it's obvious that you and Aaron take loving care of all your furries and that Ernie's had a great life.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear this news. Ernie was well loved and you gave him a happy life. We recently lost a pug at age six, which too came as a surprise. It's hard.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Ernie, but glad to hear he went peacefully with you there. We lost our rabbit at 8.5 years after a short respiratory illness. I still miss her, 7 years later.
