My mom and I were busy little bees at this summer's yardsales and flea markets. These are pictures of all the Pyrex either my mom or I found for my collection. Keep in mind I don't pay over $10 and I am quite sure my mom doesn't either.
I know what you are thinking... where do I keep all these? I have shelves in my basement for them... but even I am coming to the realization that I might have a problem on my hands soon. I need to start limiting myself to only my favorite finds. It's hard though when you find a mint condition Early American pattern 1.5 Qt Divided Cinderella Oval Casserole for only $3!!!
Thank goodness for the Pyrex Files and Pyrex Love... these sites help me identify all the patterns!
Jenny, now I can see you being the type of granny that becomes burried in all her "stuff" to the point that when she passes away all her junk just has to be thrown out. Does it make you feel good to buy things you don't even use or need and that collects dust? I do not fully understand the American mentally of obtaining more and more "things." hmmm...
ReplyDeletealessandra - well I can tell you that I am not buried in my stuff... I am a very organized collector. Everything has it's place and everything is in it's place. I do not think my grandchildren would ever throw out these beautiful dishes that are a part of our history. So yes, it does feel good to collect lovely items and I do use them! I cook and entertain often and the dishes hold my creations. It's okay that you do not understand why people collect, although I would not assign collecting to strictly Americans. I know not everyone enjoys it but I sure do!
ReplyDeleteIf it's cheap and brings you joy, I say keep collecting and just build more shelving. :) These are going to functional family treasures that you can give to your children on their wedding day and they will then give it to their children.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! Love your Pyrex collection!
ReplyDeleteR&T Mom
I see this collection as more about recycling rather than just obtaining material things, and that's a very good thing! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI dont find this so much as a collection but as preserving Amercian History. I love your pryex history, I have bought several pieces myself only because they "called" to me in a way. I look at something and think of all the wonderful meals a person has made for her family in those dishes. I buy up old quilts cause I cant see them be thrown out in the trash, so I say Thank you for keeping our history alive.
ReplyDeletei think i have the top right one, we're like pyrex twins! (except...that's the only one i have. heheh.)
ReplyDeletejenny - WOW. your collection is quite impressive. i HEART pyrex and have a little collection I use at home, but it's teeney-weeney in comparison!
ReplyDeleteWhat are your collection faves?
did you know there is a pyrex love flickr group?
dude, alessandra, back off. they're pretty and not only are they pretty, they are great dishes to hold presentable, delicious foods. don't listen to her jenny. everyone collects something. much better to collect something aesthetically pleasing and useful than having no color in your life.
ReplyDeletethanks everyone for jumping in... yay for Pyrex!
ReplyDeleteNicky - my favorites are the pink and the turquoise dishes. I also love the bright green and blue one I just got this summer. I have them all posted to the Pyrex Love group too!
: )
I guess I need to hit up some garage sales - I need more pyrex!!!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage Pyrex, too. I collect lime green pieces. They are quirky, retro and totally great for casseroles. Isn't it great to collect something that you can actually put to use? Viva la Pyrex! :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool!! My old boyfriend bought me pyrex bowls on eBay for Christmas one year. He drove from MA to PA to pick them up! They were one of my best gifts ever!
ReplyDeleteI also love the Pyrex! My favorite is the Bullseye Casserole with a lid. It's so Mod looking and hard to find but there is always one on ebay to drool over, sigh. I also love the polka dotted mixing bowls and the primary colored fridge set. Pyrex rocks! You have a very nice collection :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know there are other Pyrex collectors out there. I LOVE them! Although what you have here is bigger than my collection.
ReplyDeleteI've never run across old, colorful Pyrex plates. Now I want some.
what a haul!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a collection! Not a lot of yard sales where I live so I've always looked to thrift stores or ebay for my pyrex. Usually do better on ebay than at thrift stores. I think the stores have caught on to the collectability factor and have raised prices accordingly.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with most of the other commenters. I've read your blog long enough to know that your dishes don't just sit on dusty shelves. :P
Great collection. Not to mention the value it has for you and your mom as a shared interest. I bet those conversations/time together is worth the money alone.
ReplyDeleteI also collect pyrex and unfortunaly my collection is a lot bigger than yours. My best friend and I always try to outdo each other trying to find a pattern that we dont have. I have half of the barn loft lined with shelves and they are full and I just got back from 8 months in CA and came home with 7 32 gallon totes and 1 120 gallon tote full, that I havent put up there yet. I find most at yard sales and thrift store. My best find was a teapot with strainer that is valued between 175-200 and got it for 5. Not too bad
ReplyDeleteJenny,
ReplyDeleteLove your pyrex collection!
I'm always intrigued by your organization and how much stuff you seem to have. Was wondering if you could share some of your organization and "everything in its place" tips - I need the help :)
