I discovered some upsetting news last week. The last Krispy Kreme in Rochester closed it's doors.
No more hot doughnuts now. I don't know what happened and I am peeved that Buffalo got to keep one and we didn't.
Long time readers will remember seven years ago when I got up at 4 am to stand in line for the Krispy Kreme opening.
I am crushed. You can read more about it over at Rocha-chatter.
I know exactly how you feel.

ReplyDeleteWow that was seven years ago??? It feels like just maybe two or three! I'm sorry you lost your Krispy Kreme, I would die!
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe it was seven years ago either. I guess I've been reading your blog longer than I thought!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer about the Krispy Kreme!
The Baltimore area ones are closing too? Too much growth too quickly?
ReplyDeleteKrispy Kreme has been having some troubles. They grew too fast too quickly, but also they've been struggling because people are trying to be healthier, and KK doesn't offer too many healthy options.
ReplyDeleteThey've closed a lot of Krispy Kremes in the Chicago area too. It's very sad. I LOVE their donuts!
I don't want to sound like a curmudgeon, but I don't get the KK mania. I don't think they taste that good. We have a bunch of them here in Vegas - we don't care about our health, I guess - and whenever I'm at the airport I see people carrying BOXES and BOXES of KK onto their flights home. Strange.
ReplyDeleteThe Twin Cities locations are closing as well. We drove by our local one this weekend and were shocked to see all the windows taped. That is just so sad!

I feel your pain!! We lost ours in Albany, NY awhile back. And boy, do I miss them! : (
ReplyDeletesame here and it's really weird how they go away. i had just been to one about three days before (i barely ever go though) i drove past and saw all the signage down and cardboard in the windows.
ReplyDeletevery weird, i wish they would make some sort of announcement.

I was always a fan of Dunkin Donuts because we have no Krispy Kremes where I live (unless you want to get a stale Krispy Kreme from the gas station). Then a couple years ago, I pulled off the NY Thruway and found a Krispy Kreme. Had to try it to see for myself. I loved the diner-like atmosphere and that you could watch them making the donuts! No deliveries off the truck! And the donut I had was warm and delicious! I've had Krispy Kreme one other time, in the DC area. You're lucky you had them for seven years and I'm sorry they are gone now.
ReplyDeleteWe lost the one in our province last year! I never even got to try it.
ReplyDeleteSomething's not right over at KK Central, because our KK was always jammed with people, according to Calgarians I know. They shut it down anyway.
It's actually sounding like Krispy Kreme is only having troubles in the northern states. Makes ense though since that's the newest market. Us southerners would never let our beloved KK disappear. Heck most of the people in my town are mad that Dunkin Donuts is coming =P
ReplyDeleteKrispy Kreme stock hit $48 back in 2003. On Tuesday, Sept. 18th, it hit a record low of $2.93. Their business is just really struggling.
ReplyDeleteThe only KK in my area (in RI) is closing as well. It just couldn't compete with Dunkin Donuts. People liked KK donuts, but couldn't stand the coffee, which is DD's main draw. KK even spent extra money on developing a better coffee before they opened here, knowing that, but it still didn't work. RI has major Dunkin loyalty. Even our civic center is now the Dunkin Donuts center. We call it "The Dunk" lol. Its too bad, I liked the variety.
ReplyDeleteWaaaaaa!!!! I just read the news. I had no idea. I'm SO BUMMED!!
