In the North End, there's a cool place called Trani that injects yellow or chocolate cupcakes with either vanilla or chocolate ice cream. It's quite good. Address is 111 Salem Street. There are also quite a few good dessert places in North End that I think you'd enjoy.
- party favors (on beacon street in brookline) for cupcakes - the paramount (on charles street) beacon hill for brunch - charles street just has tons of cute stores in general - the paper source (boylston street or beacon street in brookline) for paper and crafty things - flour bakery (south end and downtown boston) for all tasty treats - south end area is just full of tasty food/cute stores
Definitely party favors in brookline for the best tasting cupcakes, and also cosmos for cute ones ... Pictures of both on my Flickr account www.flickr.com/smcgee/tags/cupcakes
I'll second Flour. There's also the South End Buttery, whose Nutella brownies are amazing. Down the street from the Buttery is Formaggio, which is one of the best cheese purveyors in the country. For non-food things, there's Magpie, Marimekko, and Black Ink.
Forgot to mention: L.A. Burdick handmade chocolate shop and cafe at 52-D Brattle Street in Harvard Square... in case your chocolate mice and chocolate penguins supply is running low. ;D
OMGosh, you should try Kick*ss Cupcakes (378 Highland Ave), they just opened in Davis Square. You could check out Magpie (416 Highland Ave) and Poor Little Rich Girl (255 Elm St) while you're there too.
How exciting that you'll be in The Bean -- I read every day and can't wait to see what you write about your trip here!
Okay, so it's not a cupcake place, but one of my favorite restaurants in Boston is the Union Oysterhouse. If you're into seafood, it's definitely one of the best! Particularly their New England Clam Chowder... and you CAN'T go to Boston without eating that! :)
I love TeaLuxe, so I second whoever said that. I also can't help but love Legal Seafood, even though locals say other places are better. They even have a place in the airport so you can grab some Chowda on your way out. And go see the Make Way for Ducklings!!
you should definitely put coolidge corner on your list! while it's technically brookline, it's super easy to get to, right on the t (green line, c train).
my absolute favorite place to eat in the area is zaftig's deli, which is around the corner from party favors, which i will second as having the best cupcakes known to man, hands down! there is a paper source right across the street from party favors, and i also recommend a spin through brookline booksmith (especially the card and gift room, which always has a great selection of neat things!).
I will have to agree w/ the North End, and going along with that you've got to go to Mike's Pastry, hands down BEST pastries! Cannolis & cheesecake are to die for, cakes, cookies, pies, desserts of all kinds ;)
I went to dinner at Shabu-Zen (on Tyler street)a few months ago and it was great! One of the best Shabu Shabu places I have been to!
If your willing to drive about 20 mins or so you can get to The Melting Pot in Burlington!! Its awesome! There is one planned for downtown Boston eventually, I haven't been in a while so maybe its already there?? Funny they didn't open one there first!
I also agree with checking out Make Way for Ducklings, and Faneuil Hall. Right there you will find many shops and restaurants (like Cheers!) and Quincy Market, which has an amazing food hall with anything you can think of, plus neat little shops and kiosks.
Welcome to Boston! The best place to eat in the North End is Giacomo's (355 Hanover). There is always a line and it is super crowded, but the food is amazing. My second fav is across the street called Maurizio's. There is a war about whether Mike's Pastry is better than Modern pastry. All the local Italians prefer Modern (257 Hanover) and I must agree that they have the best Canoli's on earth.
I also would recommend a tour of Fenway Park. Go Red Sox! http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/ballpark/tour.jsp
Wow, I'm so jealous that you get to travel so often! Welcome to Boston (my childhood hometown). Mike's Pastries is great and check out Peking Tom's for some Asian fusion. =)

ReplyDeleteWelcome to Boston, in advance! I would recommend visiting Tealuxe on Newbury Street for tasty sandwiches and a nice steaming hot cup of tea. The Public Garden is lovely to stroll through and excellent for taking photos. In the North End there's a hidden gem shop called Cadia Vintage which sells a lot of cool vintage and retro odds and ends. Café Algiers, a Harvard Square institution, is a great place to stop for lunch if you like turkish coffee and falafel.

ReplyDeleteLulu's in the North End has AMAZING cupcakes! We got several flavors for our wedding and it was a huge hit!

ReplyDeleteThank you for all these awesome recommendations! Trani and the Union Oysterhouse are perfect because our hotel is in the North End!

ReplyDeleteIf I were in Boston right now, I'd be heading to Toscanini's for ginger snap molasses ice cream.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the seafood and bbq at East Coast Grill, and a fancy meal at Locke-Ober. Definitely agree with everybody on L.A. Burdick's and Tealuxe.
Love Toscanini's micro-sundae!
ReplyDeleteSalem Beerworks!! The blueberry beer and the sweet potato fries mmm!!

ReplyDeleteFor best pizza in the North End - Pizzeria Regina.
In a close area nearish to the North End is Faneuil Hall - lots of stores (like Crate & Barrel) + plenty of food + gifts.
There are also a ton of cool places on Newbury Street. Lots of shops & restaurants.
I'm from Boston (live in Rochester now), so when I visit my parents, these are the places I always go to.
Finale or Mike's Pastries for amazing dessert and Upper Crust for some seriously good thin crust pizza.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Paper Source is a store that you should check out.

Also try clam chowder at Legal Seafood, better than Union in my opinion, and lobster rolls with fries at B&G Oyster House.
ReplyDeleteFor things to do, the harbor cruise is awesome. And on Saturdays there are live parades in North End.
I'll add my voice to the votes for Flour.

ReplyDeleteGo to the Omni Parker House (a hotel) and try the Boston Creme Pie (that's where it was invented!)
