Aaron was in PA at a new Wegman's opening for the weekend. He brought me back a pack of vintage luggage labels from the airport giftshop.

I love how in the day's of yore (or is it yesteryear?) people would put stickers from their travels onto their suitcases. Why did people stop doing this? I guess when we started using fabric luggage.

I love the look of old luggage too. (talk to me after I had to lug it through an airport without wheelies and see how much I love it then) The thought of using used vintage luggage icks me out though for some reason. And the only old fashioned styled suitcase I have found online costs $1,695.00. Yowza. I think I will just stick the labels on my little vintage Samsonite Train Case my mom gave me.

  2. I could have written this a few months ago. I was taking my first train trip and desperately wanted a vintage case. Much of what I saw was cool on the outside, gross on the inside. I finally found something on EBay, a Hartmann suitcase, but even though I SWORE I hated luggage with wheels, I found that it's very, very heavy lugging multiple wheel-less things through the airport. I had never flown before, but now that I have, let me just say that Charlott'es airport always seems to put me two mile from where I need to be, with five minutes to get there. So I bought a wheeled suitcase. I love the stickers too though, but I'm not sure they'd look right on the suitcase I bought. The other thing I'm always looking for are vintage luggage tags.

  3. I found some cute vintage luggage at the thrift store last week and didn't buy it because I didn't think I would use it. It kind of grossed me out, but it smelled kind of gross inside too.

  4. I had a vintage suitcase - a hand-me-down from the parents. I think they originally bought it for their honeymoon in 75. It was so great looking, a blue and green plaid...but...they had crappy little wheels and one single (non-retractable) handle. Eventually the zipper broke. Which wasn't such a bad thing, because the ones they make these days are so much better.

  5. I also like the old tradition of sticking a sticker on your bag so show where you've visited. Since I use the "modern" soft-sided luggage, I sew patches on it! Lots of places we've been you can buy a patch of (um like in Chicago, I bought one in the gift shop of the Sears Tower that had a building and said "Sears Tower" - it's cool!). So I've got some fun patches sewed on my suitcase and it's easy to spot on the luggage roundabout thingy too!

  7. I love vintage/replica labels on suitcases! I got some ocean liner replica labels a few years ago and later found myself a vintage suitcase - yes, I lucked out and found one in very good condition, but it still needed a VERY good cleaning, inside and out! The labels look fantastic, though - I ModPodged them on to make sure that they would be secure. The case is too heavy for anything other than weekend use in a car, but it has traveled with me, been used as an onstage prop, and it makes a great household conversation piece/end table!

And an aside - after hearing all about its amazingness from your site, I've experienced a Wegmans myself - it is an ubersupermarket!
