Joel's family is thinking about getting a Cockapoo, so I was browsing around a page about hybrid dogs. I have been seeing more and more of these mixed pooches. Reading the site, I was amazed at how many pug mixes there are! They never quite look like what I thought they would look like. I thought a Dachshund/Pug would look like a stretched out skinny pug... but no, it comes out something all it's own.
I have pictured here a Bugg - Boston Terrier/Pug, a Bassugg - Basset Hound/Pug, a Daug - Dachshund/Pug, a Puggle - Pug/Beagle, a Chug - Chihuahua/Pug and... what I really think are Ewoks, but they claim are Brugs - Brussels Griffon/Pug
Besides these you can also find...
Frenchie Pug - French Bulldog/Pug
Jug - Jack Russell/Pug
Miniature Bulldog - Bulldog/Pug
Muggin - Miniature Pinscher/Pug
Pug-A-Mo - Pug/American Eskimo Dog
Pug-Zu - Pug/Shih Tzu
Pugapoo - Pug/Poodle
Puggat - American Rat Terrier/Pug
Puginese - Pekingese/Pug
Pugshire - Pug/Yorkshire Terrier
Could the names be any funnier? The funniest name I ever heard was Chiweenie - Chihuahua/Dachshund.
You missed an Ori Pei - a pug/shar pei hybrid.
ReplyDeleteI have one.
Hello! Do advise your friends and family not to purchase from petshops or pet farms/ puppy mills. :)
ReplyDeleteYou can read about them here:

I love the Pugles (pug and beagles). I want one sooooo badly.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like some freaky hybrid-gene-splicing thing going on :)
ReplyDeleteWe got a Bugg at our local humane society a year and a half ago and LOVE him!
ReplyDeleteHi LJC,
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to be a downer, but I'd like you to read this blog entry:
About Designer Dogs
which details a darker side to hybrid dogs. The lady who keeps that journal is a pug owner, just like you.
Ha! Hybrid dogs... do you think they're more envionmentally friendly? :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right- those are Ewoks!
ReplyDeleteOMG a Brug is my dream dog!! I've always said my pug resembles an Ewok at times but was never fuzzy enough. Thanks for posting this picture!
ReplyDeleteWe had to put our Porgi (pug/corgi mix) to sleep last fall, but she was SUCH a character. We still miss her.
ReplyDeleteinori & anonymous - I agree... incompetent pet breeders, for any kind of dog, pure or hybrid is a bad, bad thing.
ReplyDeletebonnie - whups! I did! I checked out your site... Annie is cute!
ReplyDeleteSharkey - oh... I am sorry to hear that. She was a cutie!
ReplyDeleteAn ewok. Hee heee! I think the Pug has become the most popular dog in America.
ReplyDeleteBefore adopting Rosie Andrew and I were interested in Goldendoodles. I think my favorite name I ever came across while searching on the web was a Golden Retriever and Doberman Pinscher hybrid called...a Doodleman Pinscher. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a "Shiffon" - Mom is a Shih Tzu, Papa is a Brussels Griffon. Not a puppy mill, just a happy accident. Pictures at Flickr:

hey, my name is stacie - i adore your blog. i was flipping through etsy.com and saw this, then thought of you (i've never really thought about sending something to someone i haven't met before, but why not? you're like virtual family!) .. :) take care.

Ditto on the petshops/puppymills...There are rescue groups for all breeds. Breeding animals while animals are dying is not an option. I'm a shelter volunteer, I know.
ReplyDeletevery interesting
ReplyDeleteHm...I remember when mixed breeds were called "mutts." ;)
ReplyDeleteanother note to please check out a shelter first before you consider paying a 'breeder' of crossbreeds :) they might sound cute or funny, but consider health problems from crossbreeding
ReplyDeleteYes, all those names are cute but they are just created in a ploy to charge you the price for full breeds when really you are buying a mutt. It is true, they are everywhere you go now.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and BIL bought a Beagle-Poo last year, and he is a cute little dog (who looks nothing like a beagle or a poodle) but I just cannot get over the fact that they paid $300 for what is basically a mutt.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Stewie looks exactly like my parents' cat, he's so cute!
thanks, i stayed up till 4 am looking at dog pictures because of this post! cant wait until the day i can own a mastiff..the gentle giants.
ReplyDeleteI have a bug she is 12 weeks old and the love of my life.I get so many complements on her how she is just the right mix of pug and boston terrier.Iam glad I went with a hybrid dog instead of a purbrid she has brought great joy to my life and I recommend them they are amazing.
ReplyDeleteTJ.
my Puggle is pregnant with a bassett which would be a bassugg. If anyone is intrested they should be born around the 22 or 24th of this month and will be ready after halloween. We live in Mississippi will travel to Mid south and will e-mail pictures. Also we have a shih-tsu that is also pregnant we think her tets are swollen with a chocolate yorkie which would be a shorkie-tsu I think? And we have a male bassett in need of a good home. He was my brother's dog he had to move to a small apartment and is expecting a baby, we took him in but are trying to help find him a good home. I don't believe in kill shelters. So if anyone is intrested in any one the above mentioned I will e-mail pictures of the puppies when they arrive. I am asking 200-250 for the bassugg's and 350-400 for the shorkie-tzu when and if they are born. The bassett is free to good home I have papers on the bassett and papers on the yorkie and shih-tzu so the puppies will be ckc registered I think, and I don't have any papers on the puggle the lady we bought her from said she didn't have any either but had papers on the mom and dad of her so I never bothered her. We were just glad to get a puggle at the price we got other places wanted 900 to 1000 for them. Let me know if your intrested bigmomma0674@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with buying in Pet shops as long as they arent getting there puppies from puppy mills
