I saw this sign at Wegmans and yes I trooped the whole way across the parking lot and lawn to take this picture. I think it's a great idea.
Tina asked me to make her signs that say "My lawn isn't dead... it's just eco-friendly". Apparently she is the only one in her neighborhood that isn't watering her lawn religiously every evening.
J keeps struggling between - we need to radically fix our lawn (rip it all out and put new seed down)- and - it's not dead, it doesn't hurt my feet to go barefoot, and there's no chemicals to hurt the cats....After moving to a new house in a cornfield in high school, and spending summers trying to weed and seed sections, the latter definitely suits me.
ReplyDeleteThe lawn services spray the neighbors' lawns with chemicals and a few hours later, their children and pets are rolling around on the treated lawn. Can it be that a perfect lawn is more important than the future health of their children and pets?
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved into our house 3 years ago, we probably horrified the neighbors by ripping up the front lawn. The first year, we planted wildflowers. The second year we built some raised rock wall beds and have been working on planting a nice mix of perennials and annuals. Everyone loves it now. A third of the back is all veggie garden and the rest is a mix of grass and clover that hasn't seen a drop of fertlizer or weed killer since we moved in. It's green. It grows. It's fine.
ReplyDeleteI'll take one of the eco-friendly lawn signs too. MY FIL visited us at our old house, looked at our lawn and said seriously, "Oh, you must be in a drought." Um, no, we are just poor water-ers.
