Aaron and I have been making salads with romaine lettuce, dried cranberries, feta cheese, honey balsamic dressing... and the key ingredient, glazed walnuts. They are so good. I eat them out of the bag on the way home from the grocery store.
So now the Nut Roaster I spotted at Target is looking pretty good to me. Toffee glazed nuts! Yum!
What brand of honey balsamic vinegar are you using? Those walnuts ARE good! Last night I made a good salad: Romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes cut in half, cucumbers with the seeds taken out, mozzerella crumbles, freshly ground salt and pepper, blue cheese dressing, and honey bbq boneless chicken fingers from the grocery store cut up. It was pretty darn good. I'm into the Mini Eggs already.
ReplyDeleteI make the exact same salad, except I use Newman's Own Raspberry Vinagrette. You should try it! And I'll try honey balsamic vinegar :)
ReplyDeleteAh, then I bet you'd love this salad: strawberrie, blueberries, almonds or walnuts, goat cheese, and strawberry vinagarette on spring mix. yum.
ReplyDeleteI use T Marzetti's... it's in the refridgerated dressing section.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you keep all of your gadgets?! =)
ReplyDeleteI think I have a recipe somewhere around here for glazed walnuts. I think it is pretty easy. No special equipment required. But maybe the gadget will also work for roasting chestnuts? Don't know...
making your own candied walnuts is easy, no special equipment required!
ReplyDeleteToast 1 lb. of walnuts on a cookie sheet (maybe two) in a single layer until fragrant, about 7 minutes. In the meantime, beat one egg white and 1 tbl. of water until frothy and measure out 0.75c of sugar and a good pinch of salt. If you like cinnamon, go ahead and add a tablespoon or two. Take the walnuts out of the oven and put into mixing bowl. Toss with egg white mixture, and sprinkle over the sugar. Toss to coat well, return to baking pans, and bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour. Voila!
For a fun variation, substitute the walnuts with pecans, and add two tablespoons of curry powder to the sugar. MMMM!
you always get the coolest gadgets! my husband and I right now are going through and stocking our kitchen with gadgets so we can start canning and cooking more and I keep going to your site to see what you have LOL.. You should seriously just make a list HAHA
ReplyDeletehey ljc-love your blog..read it religiously. just wanted you to know that the nut roaster and glazes are on sale right now. the roaster is 6.98 and the glazes are just 98 cents. can't beat that..but maybe just go for the glazes b'cos i also just use a regular pan and just stir it w/ a wooden spoon. it works great, but at this price i may have to go back and just get the roaster. ^_^
