Apparently I have been nominated for the Best Blog Design in the 2005 Weblog Awards.

It's not looking too good... Giggle Chick has 300 votes, I have 46. Perhaps I could be a dark horse winner.

  1. This is my first time posting, but has been a lurking fan of your site. I voted yesterday, and to see if I could, I voted again today and it worked :) If every single visitor voted every day till the end, then maybe Ljc will win!

Oh yeah, a shout out to Oscar - he's the cutest pug ever!

  2. Nice! And well deserved. I've got three computers here, I'll vote on all of 'em.

  3. I nominated you for this..few weeks back - I've looked at the competition..and you are clearly the best desgin. Many others don't even seem like a desgin to me - a banner and screen color - but anyone can do that - yours -- is much more than banners and such.

    Good luck.

  4. jenny, you should clearly win...you have the best design!

  6. Uh...I looked at all those other designs and your's is absolutely the best. Not only is your artwork original, your layout is easy to navigate and it's not cluttered up with a bunch of crap. Also, cute.

  9. Count me in! I will be voting for you every day from home and from work. Dishonest? Maybe. But after viewing the other sites nominated, I still think yours is the most original and has the best design.

Your blog is a daily read for me. I went to a conference out of town and had no internet access for a week. By the time I got home, I was like a junkie in need of a fix. Thanks for always being a bright spot in my day!

  13. Since my pre-blogging days, your site has been my inspiration. I *love* the layout and how all the different pages ("categories", I called them then) integrate into a complete SITE, not just a blog or just a page. I'm off to vote NOW. I'm surprised you haven't won every year since you started, quite honestly!

  14. One more thing - give us an RSS Feed, and not only will we love you forever, but we will also become even more addicted than ever before. >MWAH<

  27. I just wanted to write and say I love your site too. I'm one of your competitors, I guess, but isn't the whole point of the contest to try to introduce people to new blogs? I've only been blogging a couple of months, so I was surprised to make it to the finals -- anyway, I'll be back to visit once this thing is over!

  32. The design of your site is concise. There is such clarity I can easily sort out the information you are presenting to me. And of course I really enjoy the content. I wish there was a way to measure how your site inspires others to live more aware of their world. That's an even bigger honor in my book. Best wishes

  46. It's not looking too good... Giggle Chick has 300 votes, I have 46. Perhaps I could be a dark horse winner.

...and that was two days ago. You really believe you recieved 600 votes in two days? How many people actually read your blog? Care to share some numbers? Somebody's cheating, it's either you (I really hope not) or one of your fans is overzealous... but in the interest of honesty and truth you should contact the poll organizers and note what's happening here.

  47. voted!!

& to the anonymous poster above: 1) CALM DOWN 2) "You really believe you recieved 600 votes in two days? How many people actually read your blog? Care to share some numbers?"... i really don't think it's very nice of you to antagonize Jenny... what exactly has she done to you? 3) yes, it is possible to receive 600 votes in 2 days. OBVIOUSLY it's possible because it happened... especially when you consider that you may vote once every 24 hours in each poll. 4)"Somebody's cheating, it's either you (I really hope not) or one of your fans is overzealous"... again with the antagonizing... you really should try to relieve some of that stress of yours... yoga perhaps? 5)"but in the interest of honesty and truth you should contact the poll organizers and note what's happening here"... hmm.. honestly & truthfully, you annoy me.

never been calmer. you're the one shouting. it just hurts to see that blogs without a design (just look at this . pages like that one are eligible for "best design" - excuse me, this is a popularity contest at best since there's no design present. FYI, Jenny hasn't done anything to me, but I don't buy it that 700 ppl actually voted for a little personal blog like this one. Sorry for the antagonizing, it's nothing personal, but when I see the designs and actual work other contestants in this category put work into their weblogs, I can't believe the owner of this weblog is going along with what's happening.

Think about it, statistically less than 0.1% of a weblogs visitors vote (see webaward polls from earlier years if you don't believe me), just looking at the average number of comments here, beside this thread it's not dead, but humble. Don't you wonder why there's no stats for the page? ;-) Would prove my point, but hey, I'm not the one withholding information here.

Also, you're claiming that 150 people (that's more than the number of all individual commenters in four years in this blog) started to vote twice? Listen, girl, voting has been up since December 1st and the number of votes gained was 30-40. Can you explain the sudden explosion of votes? Nah, you can't - because you don't want to. That's o.k. for you, but dishonest. Perhaps your emotional attachment to the owner of this blog blinds you. And I couldn't care less whether I annoy you or not.

    emily
I don't have a weblog, so, no blogger account, no name. You want a name? Here you are. Terrificly nice to meet you.

  51. Jenny, you couldn't ask for a better "vote for ljc" motivator than Frededick, I mean, Frederick.
And by the way, I was shocked to find out that the giggle chick or whatever she's called is actually a designer. Her blog design is uninspired, to say the least. ;-)

  52. I will be voting for you every day from home and from work. Dishonest? Maybe.

Not maybe, Jennifer, it is called cheating.

    anonymous II

    Frededick! That's a good one :-)
Luckily at least I have one while you have to be contended with p*n*i*s envy.

By the way, why should I be a good motivator for pushing along with the vote-cheating?

As for other weblogs' designs, just take a look at "The Shape Of Days" - if you know half about xhtml and css as I do, you'll notice how professional the coding is done. That's a level this blog (nothing personal, just stating the obivous) has yet to achieve. Ljc, I still hope you'll put an end to this farce and contact the weblog awards organizers to check your votes for identical IP addresses. If not for yourself, then for the sake of the spirit of the weblog awards.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The 2005 Weblog Award site posts daily updates about the voting process, etc. Fred and other non-believers can make their own inquiries to the award folks if they are concerned, however they might want to look at Friday's notes before doing so. You'll see that cheating issues were addressed for a few blogs in the "design" category and LJC's blog was not one of them.

I like many others visit blogs everyday and never comment - or comment so seldom the owner rarely remembers me. Which is fine. I'm not commenting to get return comments. I personally think LJC has had many followers like me who simply enjoy her projects, learning about new products, etc. As a result the award process has exposed her to a larger audience and they are now voting. Sure friends relatives, co-workers are voting too but that is the case with every nominee.

    ReplyDelete
  54. okay. hello. "uninspired gigglechick" here. I'm not trying to stir the pot, but when my name is dragged through the mud in the comments, yes, i will pipe up... I suppose that spending 4 hours on design and coding of my site is a bit lacking yes. but, i have a full-time design gig, freelance design on the side, volunteer with a local parade and also perform stand up... so forgive me if i really didn't put my "all" into the design of my website... been a bit busy.

feel free to slam each other, but, try not to slam the finalists... if you feel like slamming me, do it on my blog... please. would LOVE to have you

    ReplyDelete
  55. I just wanted to note that if the creators of the Weblog Awards are able to track IP addresses, and determine where cheating is occurring, and also mention specifically in their Weblog Notes that the cheating isn't taking place on behalf of the leaders of this contest, then don't you think that enough is enough? Not to mention, if they thought it was unfair for people to vote once a day for the duration of the contest, that they would have set some sort of blocking feature to exclude a person once they had voted? I feel that Ljc has plenty of readers, because I for one read her site every day. Perhaps she doesn't concern herself with stats because she's posting for herself, to bring her creativity to the web. I think the best blog will win, personally, after checking out the other sites. And yes, I DID check the other sites before voting for Ljc's blog. Just goes to show that just because the "coding" may be professional, doesn't mean that it appeals to the actual readers of each site. Oh, and my name is Danielle, in case you were wondering.

Good point lucy, best one in the whole thread so far. Nevertheless, this post started sometime Thursday, and who's there to tell our culprit didn't start the engine until after the time the award organizers checked up on the polls?

To end this, I'm satisfied with a note on the organizer's website that all results are only valid until checked after the 15th whether someone used virtual steroids or not.

I feel that Ljc has plenty of readers, because I for one read her site every day.
    and
I think the best blog will win, personally,...
It's logical sentences like this one that show me why "I feel that" my initial assumption that you're only left with p*n*s envy were entirely and completely correct. I think, personally, too. lmao

Just goes to show that just because the "coding" may be professional, doesn't mean that it appeals to the actual readers of each site.

Which is exactly the reason why this isn't the category for best blog design, but "most popular" blog, if anything.

Oh, and my name is Danielle, in case you were wondering.

No, I wasn't, really. But I'm glad you decided you introduce yourself properly. Now we can talk and become best friends.

About "uninspired" (booh! ...tststs...) gigglechick, I don't know about you, but her design (looks, not weblog) is so hot, she's worth any award :-D

p.s.: I might better shut the f*ck up, since real cute ladies like the one from http://www.xiaxue.blogspot.com/ draws thousands of votes within a couple of hours. Sorry if damage's been done - Ta!

    ReplyDelete
  57. jenny i love your blog and have loved it for years. both design and content rock and i am happy to come out of lurkdom and vote for your blog in the design category.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I for one continue to be impressed with Jenny's skill for designing little people and little pugs in her banners. Take for instance the current banner. The ingenuity of ljc's face and oscar's face in christmas bulb reflection is well worth any design award.

I read your blog everyday after my sis linked to it a while back. Your banners never cease to amaze me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think it's so ironic that Jenny is accused of cheating, when her main competitor has other blog websites post a link to vote for her in the contest and her guests also admit to voting every day as well. (read Dec 9, 1:02pm overthere) And that isn't considered cheating either? Oh I see, only Jenny's fans aren't allowed to vote more than once. ::rolleyes::

Jenny didn't even submit her own site to the contest, but a fan did!

Jenny has lots of fans and we will rally around her.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I wasn't going to add any more fuel to this fire, but since it bugged me to see my name and the word "cheater" in the same sentence.....I did rethink my choice to vote from both home and work. While I think the lines on whether this is cheating are blurry - and the Weblog Awards site pretty much acknowledges this - I decided for reasons of personal conscience to not enter this gray area. And before Frederick gets too smug, I would like to add that I made this choice before he decided to flame me for it. I know, total stranger, why do I care - but like GiggleChick, I just couldn't stand by a let my name be dragged through the mud.

I will admit that I don't know a single thing about coding/HTML and the like, but the dictionary defines "design" as "the creative art of executing aesthetic or functional design". Of course it is going to be subjective - because what attracts people towards art and creativity varies according to peraonal taste. And while GiggleChick has found a loyal new reader because I think her sense of humour is hysterical, I still prefer the easy to navigate layout, uncluttered composition, and overall aesthetics of Jenny's site.

  61. frederick:

never been calmer. you're the one shouting.
i was not shouting but merely emphasizing a point. if you're going to argue that words in caps is shouting, PLEASE DON'T.

it just hurts to see that blogs without a design (just look at this . pages like that one are eligible for "best design" - excuse me, this is a popularity contest at best since there's no design present.
i'm sorry it hurts you... the pain & agony you must be enduring because of this. what a shame. but, as someone has already mentioned, "best design" is subjective and determined by personal preference. so if you're going to argue that the more professional the coding the more worthy the design... well, you're going to have to do better than that.

Don't you wonder why there's no stats for the page? ;-) Would prove my point, but hey, I'm not the one withholding information here.
are you seriously going to use how many comments get posted as an argument?... that's relatively weak.

Perhaps your emotional attachment to the owner of this blog blinds you.
i never said that 150 people posted twice, i said it was POSSIBLE to receive 600 votes in 2 days. but regardless, i think the stats that were posted pretty much covers this one.

And I couldn't care less whether I annoy you or not.
i'm glad you couldn't care less... it comforts me to know that the yoga is working for you.

  62. You go, kids! These comments are hysterical! Enough that I might even vote (and I kinda liked giggle chick's too, but LJC's is just so darn fun...) fun stuff. Avg of 2500 a day? I think I've gotten that many in a year and 1/2!

    ReplyDelete
  63. OMG, are some of you people serious? Quite simply, Jenny has a super fun blog and when her fans saw she was nominated they went nuts in voting for her. Read her blog and look at all she does; I doubt she has the time to rig a web contest. Jenny, I've been a fellow craftster/guster fan and blog reader for a long while.
