Don's work........................................................ Not Don's work
Last Friday we went to see Don Hertzfeld, the animator of Bitter Films present his work at Dryden Theatre. I was suprised to see he was about 12 years old. No, he was actually 28, but it was either his name or the black comedy of his animations that had me convinced he was a middle aged guy. He so wasn't.
Matt did not disapoint when he stood up during the Q&A and asked a really interesting question. Don made clear that he will not do commercials. So Matt asked how he felt about Pop Tarts copping his look and feel. With a big sigh, he said "You can't copyright a stick figure."
I went to the site to see for myself and there is an errie resemblance.
I love Don Hertzfeld. LOVE HIM! I had no idea you liked him. Probably because I don't know you except from what I read on your blog. But I am glad to know that you are a fan. The picture you have up from Billy's Baloon? I made into a baby onesie for a couple who also like Don's stuff.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I worked with a guy that was a HUGE fan. He's go around saying "My spoon is too big" and "My anus is bleeding". Most people didn't know what he was talking about. My favorite little film is L'Amour.
ReplyDeleteThose pop tart ones are pure rip-offs.
Oh! That's the "spoon is too big" guy? I didn't know his name but I LOVE him! :)
ReplyDeletewe went to see Don and Mike Judge here in Austin when they brought their animation festival to town...people laughed at Don's work the most - it is hilarious! buy the Rejected DVD from his site and enjoy the hilarity at home, anytime...My Anus is bleeding!!
