I took Aaron to Donuts Delite today for Father's Day. It was bittersweet, because we recently learned that Donuts Delite will be closing it's doors at the end of the month.

The shop was full of folks getting one last donut. I heard the owner chatting with a customer. He said he just couldn't keep up with the new openings of Tim Hortons, Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kremes. He sighed as he looked around at all the people and said "Where have they all been?" Sad.

Pictures here of a vist in February and our visit today.

  1. That is so sad. The government should subsidize independently owned donut shops! Hope your final donut there was super tasty.

  3. Oh no! That is so sad! It breaks my heart to read that they've been there for 47 years. People really need to support their small businesses.

  4. It's a sad thing. I like mom & pop shops, particularly those places where it takes personal attention to turn out the good stuff.

They're all disappearing, slowly, but surely. It makes me feel melancholy and anxious.

    Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

  6. I grew up about 1/2 hour outside of Rochester, but never went to this shop. I love how it has maintained its vintage feel. The pictures of the donuts are making me hungry for lunch already...

  7. That's pretty sad. Around here (and I'm sure everywhere else) all our little coffee houses are closing because of Starbucks. On a totally different note, you look really nice in pink.

  8. Comparing the old photo with the new ones, it is amazing how well they've kept the place up. Looks just the same. And the donuts look better than what you'd get at the chain stores. You should get a set of those coffee mugs when they go out of business. Collectors items for sure!

  9. That's very sad - same thing happened here in Vancouver, a great place called Decadent Donuts just closed overnight... and I had just discovered it.

  10. I don't often post on here (even though I visit everyday), but the closure of Donuts Delite really moved me. It is so sad to see choice and diversity being eliminated by big corporations.

  11. I thought you would be interested to know that the closing of Donuts Delite is being discussed on the Recent Past Preservation Network email list!
