I was watching DVR'd episodes of Martha Stewart Living when they featured a cake designer for a wedding episode. There was something strangely familiar about this woman that created gorgeous sugar flowers and towering works of baked art.

She had glasses just like the costume designer, Edna Mode, from The Incredibles! I don't know if it's the glasses that make them fabulous designers, but I am tempted to get myself a pair!

  1. Those glasses are CRAZY big, Jenny! I'd suggest a Photoshop mockup first to see if it suits you. ;)

  2. I hope I'm not stating the obvious, but did you know that Edna Mode is based on Edith Head?

  5. Yeah... I knew about Edith Head... but I looked at some pictures and the size of her glasses really do not compare... they are quite round but no where near as big!

  6. It's definitely Sylvia Weinstock. She did a segment with Isaac Mizrahi on his show.

  7. Those things remind me of the 50s and 60s version of the "Birth Control" glasses... LOL ugly!

  8. I think you should get yourself a pair. The glasses are just so far out that they're beyond fabulous! I believe Carrie Donovan wore them too...she was a major fashion person.

  9. Architects are into wearing kooky glasses {Le Corbusier, Philip Johnson, IM Pei}. Helps them seem simultaneously nerdy [thus good at building things] and creative.

  10. Is it just me, or doesn't she look like Roseanne Bar?

  11. I read an article about how the character was based on a bunch of different designers, not just Edith Head. Sylvia's glasses look even huger in live video/person, if you can believe that. She might as well get herself a windshield and attach it to her face, it wouldn't be that much bigger!

  12. Hi: Although I read your blog regularly, I've never commented before. I thought the cake designer with the glasses was familiar, too. You're too young to remember but the original big glasses person was Edith Head who was an Oscar winning Hollywood costume designer.
