hm. i don't think we have wegman's around here (philly)--what makes it special?
maybe i'm a snob, but i find it difficult to resist the aesthetic appeal of whole foods...as one of my friends said, it's one of the most pleasing places to go in philadelphia! everything so artfully arranged...samples to dine on...it's just great.
I live in the DC area, and haven't made it to the Fairfax Wegman's, but I did go to the opening of the Dulles (Sterling) Wegman's last fall, and it was amazing. LOVED. IT. Despite the fact that Dulles is about 45 minutes from us, hubby and I would make the trek every other week just to see what was new. We ate dinner there all the time.
People in DC have been foaming at the mouth for a good supermarket, and the Dulles W has always been crowded. The opening of the Fairfax one was a hotly awaited event, I'm sure it's still a madhouse--but I'll have to go soon!
Hi LJC! Long time, no comment. I haven't made it to the Fairfax store yet even though it's only a few miles away. It's been so mobbed that I think I might still be better off driving out to Dulles. It's SO nice to finally have a good grocery store here.
P.S. have you heard the news that Mr. B is engaged? :)
my best friend lives there and she LOVES it. it's her haven of food shopping. i'm so jealous because boston doesn't have wegman's. :( but i'm glad you guys can enjoy.... our day will come!
oh how i miss wegman's. we're in sc now, and the ones in va are the closest to us. i'm still having withdrawals--i miss having access to things like purple potatoes and all those other specialty treats... my mom is a pharmacist at the best grocery store in a 45 mile radius--and it looks & feels like a convenience store compared to dear weggies. people down here are so flaky when it comes to that stuff--it's hard to tell if we'll ever get one. but we go whenever we visit family up in nj and stock up on all of our non-perishable faves and bring them back with us... trudie
It looks very shiny and new! Jenny, at least you HAVE a Wegmans in your neck of the woods. If only they could build one in Southern California. Could you put in a good word for me with the management? :)
I'm from dc and wegmans is about 45 mins from me ...but we still go every other weekend. Its great, love it. I have a friend from NY and he used to go there when he went to RIT. so its good to have a wegmans here, plus its two of them. Sterling and Fairfax, but the fairfax one is nuts, too many humans...haha

Can You Hear Me: There's a Wegman's in Exton PA on rte 30. You have to check it out to compare it to Whole Foods.
ReplyDeleteI drive 15 miles to go there! But at least it's not as bad as doing it in Fairfax County traffic.

ReplyDeleteI'm down here in DC, but I haven't been to the Wegmans yet. It's a bit of a haul from the city. My fiancée works for Whole Foods so I'm sure we'll take a trip out to scout the competition! She's only been to the Brockport Wegmans, which isn't anything special. From the pictures the Fairfax Wegmans looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered what you were talking about when you referred to Wegman's and now I know what a mah-velous place it is!!! :)
