I went to a Wholefoods for the first time this summer and was struck by how certain things were similiar to my beloved Wegmans. ( I especially liked the tub of handmade marshmallows I bought)
Then a reader sent me this NY Times article. Interesting... very interesting.
I used to go to Whole Foods Market frequently when I worked in San Diego. I really liked it very much. There isn't one where I live or work now, so I miss it. There is a Sprouts Natural Market in town which is like Whole Foods, but on a smaller scale. We don't have Wegmans here, but I'd love to experience one some day.

I have recently started going to Whole Foods but I agree with the article, it can be very expensive and there are a lot of snotty people there who think they are better than you. I love the employees though. You can taste test any produce. They stand by with knives to cut up anything you please.
ReplyDeleteI usually just buy produce, milk, cheese and yogurt for my 18 month old son. I wish we had a Wegman's nearby.
I'm very excited about this. There are whole food markets in chicago and I'm looking for anything close to a wegmans fix! - Matt
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that article. I lived in Syracuse for a year when I was in grad school. My beloved Michigan doesn't have Wegmans, and I still shed the occasional tear just thinking about my glorious Saturday-morning shops there.
ReplyDeleteNow when I visit Syracuse, Wegmans is like a tourist destination. I drool in the produce section and keep an eye out for Wegmans Ultimate Woo brownie mix, which was seriously the best brownie out of a box ever and which I believe is no longer in production.
Thanks for keeping the nostalgia alive for this reader.
