Although my dining room won't see a roasted turkey this Thanksgiving*, I couldn't resist making a turkey tablecloth.
Another project, another project page.
* We are traveling home to Grandma's for Thanksgiving. I have made Easter dinner, but have not attempted a Thanksgiving Turkey.
Never mind. I read that you will be at your grandmother's on your craft page. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteOooh neat tablecloth. Why no Turkey if I may ask?
ReplyDeleteThe first turkey I ever made a few years ago, was from the "Cristina Ferrare's Family Entertaining" cookbook. She used to be a host on the Home and Family show, and I saw her make her turkey on there. It's her family italian recipe, and it's the best turkey I've ever had in my life. I would highly recommend getting her cookbook at barnes and noble. Just to tempt your tastebuds, the turkey has lemons that are stuffed inside, topped with fresh rosemary, basil, thyme, salt and pepper, with a soy sauce, mustard glaze on top, when cooking in the oven, it makes your house smell heavenly. It's really easy to make, and the gravy that comes off the turkey, you can top off your stuffing. MMMM!!
ReplyDeleteTurkey can be intimidating but SO easy.
ReplyDeletePut it in a deep pan (foil roaster is ok)with a rack on the bottom. I mix butter with lemon juice & whatever seasonings sound good and brush that all over and inside (remeber to take out the stuff on the inside first). Then I take a stick of butter (or margarine) and put it in the bird. Cut up a stick of butter and mash it all over the outside. Cover with foil and cook at about 350ish for several hours, periodically basting. Make sure it's cooked throroughly either with the pop up thing or stick it good and see if the juices run clear. I've never had a dry tasteless one yet. And to be honest - I don't really even like turkey. But I'll make one for Thanksgiving and Christmas some years.

If you really like turkeys, which are intelligent and social animals, perhaps rather than eating one for Thanksgiving, you could adopt one instead! (Stuffed squash tastes so much better than stuffed turkey anyway.)

Love the tablecloth - you are way ahead of me! I still have to figure out how to seat 12 people in a 2-bedroom apartment! I'm sure some tablecloth-making is in order. :)
ReplyDeleteLuckily, we are ordering a turkey and the BF is the master of the kitchen. :)
I forgot to add - when the turkey is cooked, remove the foil from the top and let it brown up. Otherwise it'll look bad.
